VR Adventures

For those of you who are just now getting familiar with Virtual Reality, VR has the potential to change the world unlike any technology before it. Mankind’s challenges have never been greater than today, and virtual reality’s unique ability to immerse people into an experience is unmatched. Virtual reality can connect us and create empathy by opening our eyes to someone else's perspective.

The technology (headsets, controllers, software, sensors, etc.) has advanced to a level where we can now experience VR functions straight out of science-fiction movies and literature, such as in competitive gaming and high-end entertainment.

VIRTUAL REALITY, beyond sci-fi

VR hardware is now widely accessible to the public with products like HTC's Vive (my favorite of course!) So what are the innovative uses of VR for people who aren’t serious gamers or cinephiles? What new applications for VR are out there that we never thought of before? It was one thing to conceptually theorize about Matrix-esque realities in the past in things like Star TrekReady Player One, Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash, William Gibon’s Virtual Light, and the Otherland series by Tad Williams, but now we can actually put on a headset and step into a real-life holodeck in our living rooms (or at least a very convincing visual representation of one).

Discover 5 new ways that people are applying VR

Working with HTC VIVE in Chicago has allowed me to demonstrate VR to an enormous amount of people who have not experienced the latest in virtual reality.

Within the last several months I’ve become increasingly excited about VR just by being able to witness people’s first reactions to it. The smiles, excitement, laughter, and astonishment have left me enthusiastic about the future of VR.

VR is an amazing opportunity for ALL OF US, an ability to create worlds and opportunities we could have never imagine. It’s not just games, education and training. VR is bringing people together globally for shared experiences and intellectual conversations about the future.

It’s left me feeling more excited than ever about this transformative technology!

SolarPunk

SolarPunk

SolarPunk

As we imagine what life will be like in the future, often times, our media and entertainment emphasize a world of "Cyberpunk" an idea and aesthetic that focuses on advanced technological and scientific achievements, such as artificial intelligence and cybernetics but simultaneously is often dystopic and depicts a breakdown of society.

Recently the idea of SolarPunk has been gaining steam (though still a relatively unknown concept). Solarpunk is similar to cyberpunk with a focus on technology, however, Solarpunk offers a version of the future where communities are powered by renewable energy and most people live in a free and egalitarian world. Both ideas of the future focus on mankind and it's use of tech, but rarely in our media do we see our future from a more positive, sustainable perspective (even though the technology for it already exist).

I'd like to consider the idea of what a solarpunk future looks like and consider some avenues on how we get there as a society.

Below are some of the images that inspired my motivations behind "Imagining a SolarPunk Future"
